Hi Reader,

It's been raining for days on end but just as I started typing this the sun popped out!

I consider it a good omen for this week's newsletter.

Today you'll discover:

  • How to take more vacations
  • My 3 favorite resources for booking cheap flights
  • 5 things I'm loving right now (including a great song and a helluva pair of pants)
    โ€‹

Let's dive in!

โ€‹
๐Ÿ– How To Take More Vacations

Iโ€™m pulling one of my favorites from the archive for this weekโ€™s episode!

If you want to learn the secret to finding cheap flights, listen to Scott Keyes.

Scott took his passion for finding cheap flights and sharing deals with friends and turned it into the uber-successful Going (formerly Scottโ€™s Cheap Flights), a service that tracks airfare prices and alerts its 2+ million members to exceptional airfare deals.

He is also the author of Take More Vacations: How to Search Better, Book Cheaper, and Travel the World (highly recommended resource!), a guide for anyone hoping to turn vacations from once a year into many more.

If youโ€™re curious about what it takes to find the best deals on flights, his methodology, best practices when booking, the mindset you need to have when booking flights, and much more, then you will not want to miss this one!

My 3 Favorite Cheap Flight Resources

โ€‹Google Flights Exploreโ€‹

Instead of deciding on the destination first, check out flight prices everywhere then pick a place to go, or just use it for inspiration.

โ€‹Scott's Book โ€‹

If you need to pay for flights, knowledge is power. I know I already mentioned it, but this book really does cover it all.

โ€‹Wikipedia's List Of Low Cost Airlinesโ€‹

Budget airlines aren't always easy to find, and don't necessarily show up on google flights and in other aggregators. Use this list to identify budget airlines and check their website directly for cheap flight prices.
โ€‹
Before booking anything, it's worth considering other transport options if possible. Cut down on impact by taking the train, a car, your bike, skateboard, whatever.

Shot from our Laundry House band gig the other weekend (that's me on the right trying hard not to screw up ๐Ÿคช!) Hey, Reader! ๐Ÿ‘‹ I've been sick for the last week, but am finally on the mend. Since I'm just recovering, the sun is shining, and tomorrow is International Labor Day I'm going to get right into it! Mural in Austin, TX Hey, Reader! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Sky high fuel prices. Crazy long security lines at the airports. Wars. This may not be the best time to travel. And if you're not feeling, own that decision and be ok with it. You need to trust your gut and decide what's right for you. But if you still want to travel when things feel a bit uncertain I've got a one word mantra to consider... Refundable As in, book every aspect of your trip in a way that you can recoup almost all of it if you decide not to go....

My in-laws neighbor hosted an Olympics for some local kids. Above is the ski race starting line Hey, Reader! ๐Ÿ‘‹ Last week I made a conscious decision not to write this newsletter, and I think you might find the reason why helpful. See, I had a random song idea pop into my mind, and felt compelled to get it down right away before it made a mad dash back to the ether. I was thoroughly entrenched in the songwriting process, as it tends to happen, and really got into the flow of writing and making...
